Gila Hike Petroglyphs

We found some amazing Indian petroglyphs last weekend on a short hike off of the Gila Trail Head overlooking Snow Canyon State Park.

There are several entrances to the Gila Trail head, but to get to these particular petroglyphs quickly, we entered the trail at the second Gold Diamond Ranch entrance (going north on Hwy. 18) and followed the dirt road to the end (about 1/4 mile) and then parked at the trail head entrance.

From there, we walked and entered The Gila trail head looking west towards Snow Canyon State Park. It was about 1/2 mile hike from where we parked our car to get down to the lava wall loaded with the beautiful, ancient drawings.

Going on a little bit further was a small slot canyon with even more of the incredible Indian drawings.

An added bonus are the desert wildflowers beginning to bloom!

And so if you only have about an hour to spend and want a hike where you'll see beautiful desert flowers and Anasazi Petroglyphs and also be fairly close to town, we think this one is a great choice!

Butterfly Trail in Snow Canyon

My wife and I took a short hike this morning in Snow Canyon called Butterfly Trail.

Snow Canyon is a beautiful place to hike or bike this time of year. It is still cool and the desert flowers have been amazing!

Butterfly Trail is an easy to moderate trail about 2 miles round trip. There are some inclines up some natural, sand stone stairs and also some soft sandy areas along this trail.

Beautiful photo ops as always in Snow Canyon.
